Handbags sought for service project

| July 20, 2012 9:00 AM

Bonners Ferry Distinguished Young Woman, Aaramie Hoisington is hoping for assistance from the community.

She is taking an active role in the state-wide Distinguished Young Women Be Your Best Self service project.

Hoisington is joining more than 30 other Distinguished Young Women throughout the state of Idaho as they participate in “Handbags of Hope,” a service project designed to help women and teens in need.

Each participant is encouraged to collect new and gently used handbags, fill them with necessities such as handsoap, lotion, tissues and other small toiletries and distribute them to local women in need.

Handbags of Hope gives women “confidence to carry” as they deal with the struggles of every day life.

Hoisington will be working with the Boundary County Youth Crisis and Domestic Violence Hotline to distribute these handbags.

If an excess of handbags is collected they will be given to local churches or other charitable organizations to help fulfill their specific mission.

The deadline for completion of this service project is Aug. 15.

Hoisington is looking forward to distributing as many handbags as possible.

If you have a new or gently used handbag or toiletries you would like to donate to Handbags of Hope please drop them off at the Bonners Ferry Herald office during normal business hours.

The Distinguished Young Women program is designed to encourage youth to be active members of their community and lead service-oriented lives and this project is an opportunity for Hoisington to demonstrate her desire to give back to the community that has been so supportive of her.
