Avalanche improve their record
AVALANCHE U18 BOYS
The Avalanche U18 Boy's Soccer team has improved their record to 6-2-1, remaining unbeaten in their past 5 games.
In the Coeur d'Alene Tournament's 12-team division, the team made it to the semi-finals, winning three games and tieing one.
They scored eight goals, allowed three goals and had two shutouts. In the semi-final game, the Avs lost the penalty kick tie breaker to the Flathead Force of Kalispell, Mont., missing out on the Championship game.
In pool play, the Avalanche defeated Creston-British Columbia (4-0), Polson-Montana (2-1) and Great Falls, Mont. (1-0).
During the tournament, goalkeeper, Tanner Jones of Moscow played incredibly, recording two shutouts and only allowed three goals.
The offense was led by Lucas Zirotti (Coeur d'Alene), who scored three goals, Kyle Lamson(Coeur d'Alene), who had two goals and one assist.
Sebastian Mortimer (Moscow) had one goal.
Also coming through with key assists, were Gusto Kubiak of Sandpoint, Daniel Palacios, Bonners Ferry, Cordell Reed, Coeur d'Alene, Lane Smith, Sandpoint.
The outstanding player of the tournament was Andre Zarate of Bonners Ferry.
Not only did he have two goals and two assists, he played center back each time the team went up by a goal, and he kept the opponents from scoring further goals.
Zarate has received a soccer scholarship to play at Great Falls University, with former Avalanche players, Mat Evans and Alex Mendez.
During Memorial Weekend, the Avalanche traveled to Seattle, where they were scheduled to play in the Pacific Northwest Memorial Cup at the Starfire Soccer Complex.
In their first two games, they were set to take on regional powers, Crossfire Premier and Washington Rush.
