Sand Creek byway costs $100 million

SANDPOINT - Idaho’s single largest highway project, one that took 65 years from the time it was first discussed to completion, will be dedicated Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Sandpoint.

The dedication ceremony will be held at 106 Bridge Street. Parking will be available in the City Beach lot located at the end of Bridge Street.

The $100 million, 2.1-mile Sand Creek Byway will improve safety, speed commerce and enhance the community’s businesses by routing U.S. 95 through traffic by Sandpoint, reports the Idaho Transportation Department. U.S. 95 traffic has been winding around a series of Sandpoint streets since early in the 19th century.

The dedication will be led by state and local dignitaries, as well as area legislators. David Keyes, community leader and publisher of the Bonner County Daily Bee, a Hagadone News Network publication, will act as emcee.
