Three church vacation Bible school set

| June 28, 2012 10:45 AM

The three-church joint Vacation Bible School will have afternoon sessions this summer, rather than the traditional morning events as in previous years.

“Splash in God’s Word” emphasizes five Bible stories which contain water and will run from July 9-13 (Monday-Friday) from 1 to 5 p.m., for children ages 4 through entering sixth grade, at the United Methodist Church.

Afternoon sessions will avoid scheduling conflicts for those in swimming lessons. Kids who hate to wake up early in the summer will probably appreciate this change.

This joint Vacation Bible School is again sponsored by the Church of the Nazarene, Trinity Lutheran and United Methodist Churches.

The free program features Bible stories, games, arts and crafts, special DVD’s, songs, snacks, science projects — and lots of water!

The nickels and dimes donated to the offering will go to Nothing But Nets, an internationally recognized organization which — for only $10-- supplies a mosquito net covering for a bed in Africa where mosquito bites carry deadly malaria.

Somewhere in Africa, a child dies from malaria every 60 seconds and this program has been proven to be very successful in preventing this disease.

Parents are encouraged to pre-register their children to avoid the rush of 100+ kids in line on the first afternoon. Those who pre-register at any of the three churches — or at the Hair Connection downtown — will receive a free gift.

The Methodist Church is located at the corner of Denver and Lincoln, behind the tug boat building.
