Boundary Martial Arts Competes in Coeur d'Alene

| May 3, 2012 9:55 AM

Local martial arts dojang, Boundary Martial Arts located in Moyie Springs, had a mix of students and instructors compete at the North Idaho Karate Classic on May 14.

The NIKC is held each year in the sports complex at the North Idaho College campus in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. This year a total of twenty martial arts schools registered for competition with nearly 150 competitors.

Most regional competitions are open to all styles of the martial arts as everyone has to use the same rules of competition.  This allows a great variety of styles such as Karate, Kenpo Karate, Taekwondo, Tung Su Do and others to compete together.

The students at Boundary Martial Arts study the martial art of Taekwondo using the American Swirling Wind Style.

Boundary Martial Arts started just over three years ago by Mr. Robert and Mrs. Sheila Lavala.  Along with their son, Mr. Isaac Lavala, they have been training students in Moyie Springs and seeking to spread the understanding that Taekwondo is a wonderful sport as well as a respectable lifestyle.

At BMA anyone who studies hard and shows the proper level of proficiency can earn their First Degree Black Belt in three years.

At this particular competition forms (poomsae), weapons (various kinds), and sparring were judged by a host of Black Belt judges from the represented schools.  BMA competed well earning a total of 23 different trophies of which 10 were for 1st place, 6 for 2nd place, and 7 for 3rd place.  Also, Nathan Clairmont won Grand Champion Plaques for both Sparring and a tremendous Sword presentation.

The Lavala family is extremely proud of the accomplishments of their students and staff not only at competitions like the North Idaho Karate Classic but also in their above average conduct while at the local dojang and in their productive lives as students, parents, and possibly even your co-workers.

Boundary Martial Arts always welcomes new students with the desire to study Taekwondo. The Lavala family, as well as the other certified Black Belt Instructors, love to train both young (as young as five) and older alike in the personal disciplines that make the martial arts such a wonderful lifestyle.

They do not push competing, but always make opportunity to attend local, regional and national events for their students.
