Doug Owens, resident of Bonners Ferry, died Oct. 13 in Bellingham, Wash.

A brief service with military honors will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash., followed by a celebration of Doug’s life at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9.

Friends of the family are invited to attend.

Doug was born in Seattle on Jan. 12, 1944. He served in Vietnam in 1968 as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army, where he was seriously injured. He later practiced law in Anacortes, Wash., for many years.

Doug had many interests including hunting, fly fishing, world travel, especially Mexico, astronomy, art, and collecting rare books. He was a member of the National Explorers Club.

He was a “people person” who enjoyed meeting with the early morning Three Mile Cafe coffee group.

Doug loved taking his sons and their friends on fishing and hunting trips, and recently had begun teaching his 4-year-old grandson to fish.

Doug is survived by his wife of 44 years, Miriam; son Ben (Kristin); and grandsons Ashton and Greyson; son Blake (Jessica) and grandson Strummer; and numerous friends and relatives.
