On Aug. 25, the Bonners Ferry Badger JV football team traveled to Libby, Mont., to play the Libby Loggers — and came home with a win.

The jayvee squad is made up of mostly freshmen. Only six sophomores turned out for football.

One of the sophomores, Matt Tucker, started the game with a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Jason Shutes added the kick and Bonners led 7-0.

Late in the first quarter, Kyle Pintler forced a fumble that was recovered by Matt Kramer at the 20-yard line. This led to a second quarter one-yard touchdown run by Dillion Unruh and a 13-0 lead for Bonners.

Later in the second quarter, after a long drive, Jason Shutes threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Jake Ram. The score at halftime was 19 to 0.

The defense led by Gab Hubbard, Merrifield and Cody Guthrie kept the Loggers off the scoreboard. In the fourth quarter Chase Reynolds added a 10 yard touchdown run to make it 25-0.

At the end of the game, the Loggers mounted a drive inside the Badgers 20-yard line. Dillon Unruh came up with a big interception and returned it 75 yards before being tackled.
