BONNERS FERRY — Friends, family, residents and staff gathered downstairs in the Boundary County Restorium not only to celebrate the new elevator but to dedicate the elevator to the late J.T. “Ozzy” Osborn on Thursday, April 11.

One of the greatest promoters of the elevator at the Restorium was the late J.T. “Ozzy” Osborn.

“Ozzy was one of the first to dream about it,” said Larry Dirks, Friend of the Restorium. “The dream came true. We really dedicate the elevator to Ozzy.”

Two plaques, one on each floor, will recognize Osborn for his contributions to the elevator.

“You could call on Ozzy to do anything,” said Walt Kirby, Boundary County Commissioner. “The elevator was his project. Ozzy, that’s what it is all about today.”

“He gave it his all,” said Jeanne Osborn, wife of late Ozzy Osborn.

The official ribbon-cutting was done by Jeanne Osborn with an over-sized pair of scissors and followed by a huge round of applause.

The one-floor elevator on the south end of the Restorium enables residents to access the lower floor easier for meals, activities and computer access. The elevator and new sidewalks also allow for easier access to the hospital for out-patient tests and therapies. Residents don’t have to navigate an icy hill in winter or a push uphill on rainy days.

location for residents to enjoy the sunshine.

“We now have a wonderful elevator,” said Ray Olson, a Restorium resident. “The Restorium is a brighter gem because of the elevator.”

“A first rate thing,” said Kirby. “It was going to happen because Ron said it will happen.”

Former Boundary County Commissioner Ron Smith supported and pushed for the elevator and was lauded for his efforts at the ceremony.

Olson thanked not only Smith but also Commissioners Dan Dinning and Walt Kirby.

Olson said one of the three hearts that adorn the entrance stone to the Boundary County Restorium belongs to the commissioners who support the Restorium. Another heart represents the community of Bonners Ferry and Boundary County that support the Restorium.

The third heart represents the management and staff that keep the Restorium going.

If there was a fourth heart it would represent the Friends of the Restorium, who continually strive to improve the quality of life at the Restorium, said Richard Hollenbeck.

“We are so proud of the Restorium,” said Olson.
