Gear Up sponsors Friday Savings Day

Local banks are teaming up with Gear-Up to host a community Open a Saving Account Day on Friday, April 26.
Gear Up, a program at Boundary County Middle School to help students be college and career ready, is sponsoring the event since April is Financial Literacy Month.
“We are encouraging kids to be more financially aware,” said Paula Petesch, Gear Up coordinator.
All local banks and credit unions will be offering incentives for youth to open savings accounts, along with providing information that will help them become more financially literate.
At Mountain West Bank, bankers will walk students through how to manage a savings account.
Youth will need to bring identification (a student body ID is acceptable) and a parent to open an account.
No minimum balance will be necessary to open an account on Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Youth can also open a saving account at Wells Fargo Bank will no minimum balance from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday. Youth will need their social security number and identification (student ID, driver’s license, birth certificate or social security card).
Wells Fargo Bank will honor new saving account incentives on Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Panhandle State Bank is offering a $5 coupon to help youth jump start their new savings account.
Minor saving accounts have no minimum balance and no service charge.
Youth need to bring a form of identification (picture identification, social security card or driver’s license) and a parent or guardian over 18.
Panhandle State Bank will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.
Potlatch No. 1 Federal Credit Union will be having giveaways throughout the day and will be providing youth with information on how to save money and build a savings.
Youth will need to bring current identification and be accompanied by a parent. Potlatch FCU will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
