Beehive and Harrison Lakes reopened to public
The Sandpoint Ranger District is reopening the Beehive and Harrison Lake Trails effective Aug. 1. The trails were closed because of bear encounters.
A remote sensing camera has been set up during the past several weeks in the area of the encounters and no further bear activity was observed. Visitors using these areas are encouraged to be cautious and familiarize themselves with how to safely recreate in bear country.
In an effort to reduce the potential for human/bear encounters visitors to the national forest are reminded that there is a mandatory food storage order in effect from April 1 through Dec.1 annually. All food and beverages including canned food, soda and beer, garbage, grease, processed livestock or pet food and scented toiletries must be unavailable to bears and stored in bear resistant containers at night and when unattended.
For more information on proper food storage, members of the public are invited to visit the Idaho Panhandle National Forest’s food storage web page.
For more information please contact the Sandpoint Ranger District at (208) 263-5111 or visit the Idaho Panhandle National Forests Website.
