Sanborn on Hall of Fame

| August 9, 2013 9:00 AM

Local resident Harley “Hod” Sanborn was recently honored at the Inland Empire Softball Hall of Fame banquet held in Spokane, Wash.

Sanborn was spotlighted as the player of the decade for the 1960s. A terrific hitter, he was the first player in Spokane fastpitch history to hit over .400.

During the 1964 season he batted .425 while also leading the league in home runs, doubles and runs batted in. The closest hitter in average to Sanborn hit .320.

The next time a hitter topped the .400 mark was 15 years later.

Sanborn was also a great third baseman.

Two teams Sanborn played for were honored as Teams of the Decade at the banquet, which included the Rainier Brewing Co. in the 1950s and Eagle Electric in the 1960s.
