City crime rates higher than last year

BONNERS FERRY — Crime rates in Bonners Ferry are significantly higher for January through September than during the same time last year.

Crimes against property increased 172 percent, up from 18 crimes last year to 49 this year.

Crimes against persons increased 93.8 percent from 16 crimes last year to 31 this year. Crimes against society increased 56 percent from 50 last year to 78 crimes this year.

The Bonners Ferry Police Department responded to 158 reported offenses, an increase of 88.1 percent, and made 181 arrests, up 27.5 percent. However, the clearance rate decreased from 89.3 percent last year to 81 percent this year.

There was an increase in reported offenses of aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, simple assault, counterfeiting/forgery, vandalism, intimidation, drug/narcotics violation, drug equipment violation, fondling and weapon law violation.

Police made 26 DUI arrests, up from 23 last year. Liquor law violations were down to five arrests compared to nine arrests last year.

No hate crimes were reported and no law officers were assaulted this year.
