505 Steak & Sushi opens at Dodge Peak Lodge
BONNERS FERRY — Sushi is now available in Bonners Ferry at the newly opened 505 Steak & Sushi restaurant at Dodge Peak Lodge.
The restaurant had a grand opening on Friday, Nov. 30.
“Basically, nowhere in Bonners served it,” said co-owner Jennifer McLeish about sushi.
She said people who loved sushi had to go to Sandpoint or Coeur d’Alene to find a restaurant that served it.
The restaurant will be serving sushi rolls that contain white rice with veggies and fish, said McLeish. The restaurant also specializes in steak and seafood dishes.
McLeish said they only use wild-caught fish, especially since her husband, Kevin, is a marine engineer on a commercial fishing boat.
Chef Tim Linton’s passion for cooking started 35 years ago in Cannon Beach, Ore., and has included a stint at the Coeur d’Alene Resort.
Linton’s specialty is French contemporary with his own twist. His signature dishes are the surf-n-turf and the pork loin.
“I use lots of creams and butters,” says Linton. “All sauces and soups are handcrafted.”
The restaurant tries to make as much as possible from scratch, including their vinaigrette and Caesar dressings. Their menu is continually evolving, with a plan to add huckleberry crème brûlée to their decadent desert menu that already includes chocolate torte made in-house.
“We’ve always had an idea to open a restaurant,” said McLeish. “But when we opened the hotel it was essential.”
Jennifer and Kevin McLeish bought Bear Creek Lodge in February and renamed it Dodge Peak Lodge. Both grew up in Bonners Ferry and are adding their own personal touch to the lodge.
They are remodeling all the rooms, including changing the carpet to hardwood floors, and installing a hot tub.
“Our main focus with the hotel is cleanliness,” said Jennifer McLeish.
The crisp white tablecloths and elegantly set tables attest that their focus carries over into the restaurant.
True to the name, 505 Steak & Sushi is located at milepost 505 on Highway 95 or at 5952 Main Street. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. For questions or reservations, contact: 267-7268.
