MOYIE SPRINGS — Mail is being taken from mail boxes east of the Moyie Bridge to Troy, Mont.

The thefts started last week and seem to be concentrated along the highway, said Moyie Springs Postmaster Nina Heenan.

Heenan recommends people pick up their mail as soon as possible after it is delivered, which is between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily. It appears the person(s) is following the mail carrier.

Envelopes with checks, bank statements, birthday cards and parcels are items being targeted. Mail has been found opened along the side of the highway.

U.S. Postal Service Inspectors are working on the situation.

Anyone who notices suspicious activity should contact the Sheriff’s Office at 267-3151. To report missing mail, contact the Moyie Springs Post Office at 267-7411.
