Residents generous in 2012

Boundary County residents were very generous in 2012 in helping numerous individuals and organizations. The community was also on the receiving end of several generous grants. Following are some of the highlights from last year.

• Marion McLain collected over 625,000 pull tabs from pop cans for the Ronald McDonald House, which is enough for a two-year, five-month, one hour and 20 minute stay.

• The fifth annual Fill the Bus food drive held on Martin Luther King Jr. Day collected 2,880 pounds of food for the food bank.

• Friends of the Restorium raised $26,800.77 last year to benefit the Restorium.

• TransCanada donated $4,000 towards the purchase of an emergency response vehicle for the City of Bonners Ferry Fire Department and $20,000 to the Hall Mt. Volunteer Fire Association to finish its No. 3 station.

• The 2012 Penguin Plunge raised more than $7,500 for Idaho Special Olympics.

• The Bonners Ferry Eagles Auxiliary No. 3522 raised $500 for the Boundary County Library at their annual auxiliary rummage and bake sale.

• Union Pacific Foundation granted $2,500 to each the Boundary County museum and Bonners Ferry Fire Department.
