Sandpoint Bulldogs overwhelmed the Badgers 68-46 during the Moose Madness Boys Varsity game on Jan. 11.

We started the game well on the offensive end of the floor and played with energy, but we struggled defensively the entire night. We played defense with our hands too much, which led to early foul trouble for our back court.

Sandpoint shot the ball well all night, hitting seven three-pointers on the night, and they attacked the basket all night, which led to 29 free throw attempts. They scored 15 points off of free throws in the first half and built a 20-point half-time lead.

Bonners responded well early in the third quarter and cut the lead to 13 at one point, but Sandpoint went on a run at the end of the third and built a 27-point lead going in to the fourth. By that point, the deficit was too much to overcome.

Garrett Skeen led the Badgers in scoring with 14 points, and Cameron Woods added 10, including six straight points to start the third quarter.

We have played well defensively all season, but we did not defend well against Sandpoint, and we allowed too many second-chance points. At times, we executed extremely well on offense, especially in the first and fourth quarters, but we fell into Sandpoint’s tempo for much of the second and third quarters and turned the ball over too much.
