Willam Alex 'Bill' Stockman, 85
William Alex “Bill” Stockman, 85, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2013, in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Andy Kennaly officiating.
Bill was born on June 15, 1928, in Dover, Idaho, to Alex and Lottie Stockman. He grew up in Kootenai and graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1946. Bill served his country in the United States Army before earning his land survey degree from Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls, Ore.
Bill began his career with the U.S. Forest Service in 1956 in Sandpoint, later transferring to Bonners Ferry. He married Geraldine Phillips on Dec. 17, 1960, in Mountain Home, Idaho. In 1973 his job transferred to Sandpoint where he retired in 1987. After retirement Bill worked for Welch Engineering recording surveys for Bonner County.
Bill was a member of the American Legion Boundary Post 55 in Bonners Ferry, was a founding member of the Selkirk Striders Volksport Club and was a member of the Lilac City Volksport Association. He enjoyed swimming, building model airplanes, reading, history and motorcycles.
Bill is survived by his wife, Geri Stockman of Sandpoint, Idaho; two daughters, Lynne Marie Stockman and husband David Harper of England; and Dana Stockman of Sandpoint; two brothers Richard (Doris) Stockman of Central Point, Ore., and Terry (Bernadette) Stockman of Apple Valley, Calif.; and brother-in-law Bud (Bonnie) Phillips of Clarkston, Wash.
