Little League wins league tournament, 19-0

The Bonners Ferry Yankees Little League 13U team finished undefeated in league and won their League Tournament. Their record now stands 19-0.

Taking a step out of league play, the Yankees accepted an invitation to play the Norseman, a select traveling team comprised of the best players of all three Hayden teams.

If the Yankees were nervous they didn’t show it.

The Yankees put up six runs in the first three innings.

An RBI single by Jesse Dunham during the first inning and an RBI single by Mic Skeen, a two-run single by Anthony Bennett, and an error in the second inning helped the Yankees put some runs on the board early.

Seth Bateman went a perfect 3-3 at the plate, he tripled in the fifth and singled in the first and seventh innings.

Jesse Dunham picked up the win, he allowed three runs over five innings striking out five.

Tyrone Larson pitched the last two innings allowing no runs and striking out two.

The defensive highlight of the game came on a diving sliding catch by center fielder Raul Rodriguez.

The first game of the league tournament, the Yankees won handily over visiting Newport. Anthony Bennett, Jesse Dunham, Seth Bateman, Tyrone Larson, and Raul Rodriguez each pitched one inning in the game.

The five pitchers only allowed one hit between them.

After scoring nine runs in the first inning, the Yankees tacked on another five in the second.

The inning got off to a hot start when Kobe Norwood doubled, plating Mic Skeen.

That was followed up by Pacen Pluid’s single, scoring Raul Rodriguez. The win advanced Bonners Ferry to the second round to face Post Falls Orange.

In a game that was called short due to time issues, the Yankees advanced to the championship game by defeating Post Falls.

Trey Flint and Seth Bateman each went 2-2. Flint and Brady Bateman each racked up two RBIs for the Yankees. Tyrone Larson and Anthony Bennett teamed up on the mound allowing only two hits and striking out six.

The Yankees scored five runs in the first on an RBI double by Trey Flint, an RBI double by Jesse Dunham, a groundout by Tyrone Larson, and a two-run single by Raul Rodriguez.

Dunham got the win for the Yankees despite allowing five runs over 4 2/3 innings. Dunham struck out eight, walked three and gave up seven hits.

The Yankees stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the fourth, Rodriguez scoring one run on a wild pitch.

They built upon their lead with four runs in the fifth.

Flint’s double got things going, scoring Brady Bateman. That was followed up by Dunham’s double, plating Flint.

Four Yankee hitters had at least two hits in the game. Flint was 3-4 with three RBI’s and two runs scored.

Brady Bateman was 2-2 with two walks, one RBI and two runs scored. Dunham 2-3 with two RBI’s and two runs scored. Raul Rodriguez was 2-2, was hit by a pitch, drove in two RBI’s and scored once.

Winning the tournament championship marks the second year in a row this Bonners Ferry team has done so. Up next for the Yankees, the Hayden Norseman tournament in Hayden Lake this weekend.

Bonners Ferry will be competing against Lewiston, Pullman, two Spokane teams and the Norseman.
