Remains found

| June 7, 2013 9:00 AM

BONNERS FERRY — On June 4 shortly after 5 p.m, Boundary County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a picnic area, located along Smith Creek, in northern Boundary County to a report of possible human remains being found along the creek’s bank.

Deputies located the partial, skeletal remains of a human body at that location. The remains are believed to be those of Richard Allen Corday, a 66 year old Boundary County resident, who had jumped in to the water of Smith Creek from a high cliff about one half mile up-stream in late December 2012.

At that time, a week long search of the waters of Smith Creek, by the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office, failed to locate Corday’s body due to environmental conditions, the terrain around the creek and the high water flow at that time.

Corday’s death was confirmed as suicide through subsequent investigation by BCSO Detectives.

Though the remains are believed to be those of Corday, final confirmation is pending post mortem identification by the Boundary County Coroner’s Office.
