District must notify parents of problems

| March 22, 2013 9:00 AM

Regarding the school bomb threats, I have a message to the school board and one to law enforcement:

I recognize and agree that any threat should be treated as completely serious. This being said, our current plan is NOT working.

Today I was notified that the schools were being evacuated — not by the school or news, not by emergency alert systems, but by a friend who was substituting and by my sister who overheard at the grocery store.

This was hours after the threat was reportedly made and my child was still in the school. They released my child to ride home with a friend who was not on my authorized list. Another friend reported that her kids in elementary and middle school had walked home.

I also have heard that the 911 call came in before noon, yet I didn’t know about it and my child was not out of the school until after 1:30 p.m. Why was my child in the building where there could potentially be a threat? Why was I not notified?

Nothing on local news, no calls, no emergency siren which tells us when it’s noon... And during a previous threat they waited for students to return from lunch before bringing them back INTO the threatened area to dismiss them?

To law enforcement: Prosecute to the fullest! This should be considered terrorism and we must send the message that this will NOT be tolerated.

Enough is enough. Evacuate first, then tell us!
