Hospice camp for kids

| May 10, 2013 11:01 AM

Bonner Community Hospice is sponsoring a two-day overnight camp for children ages seven-18 who have experienced a death in their family. There is no cost for attendance, but there is an application process and space is limited.

Children in Bonner and Boundary counties are eligible. The camp is set for June 14 at 1 p.m. through June 16 at 11:30 a.m. in Clark Fork.

Camp activities are supervised by trained adults and are geared to the age level of campers. There is time allocated for games, campfires, arts and crafts, and learning activities.A young person may not realize that the feelings they experience at different times during the grieving process are common, natural and normal.

Kids camp is not meant to be therapy, but it is therapeutic and fun. Kids camp gives children the opportunity to meet other young people their own age who have also experienced a loss.Kids camp offers boys and girls a chance to play, laugh, tell stories and honor their loved ones, while also learning more about their feelings and creative ways to recognize and deal with emotions. By meeting others like themselves, the kids discover that they share the same feelings and that those feelings are normal.

There is an application packet for parents/guardians to complete and submit to Tricia Gardner at 265-1185.
