Mary Louise Bowell Rathbun

Mary Louise Bowell Rathbun passed away on March 25, 2013, peacefully after a long, full life.

She was born in Calumet, Mich., in 1919 to Dr. Roy and Marie Bowell.

She grew up in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and attended the University of Idaho where she was affiliated with Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She graduated with an education degree and eloped with Glenn Rathbun just prior to his departure overseas during World War II.

Mary Louise and Glenn settled in Palo Alto, Calif., after the war where they raised their two children. After retirement, they returned to Boise, Idaho, where they had family and friends. They remained married for 64 years until Glenn’s death several years ago.

Mary Louise was very active in Boise with the Gowen Field Officer’s Wives group, P.E.O., and Kappa Alpha Theta. She contributed her time and energy as an officer in all of these organizations.

She is survived by her children Lee Rathbun (Cathy) and Phyllis Kofman, as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and her grand nephew, Shane Lowe (Karen).
