Carmel Sandy

Carmel Sandy passed away on May 9, 2013, at the Community Restorium in Bonners Ferry.

She moved to Bonners Ferry with her husband, Vernon Sandy, in 1965. She loved spending her free time working in her flower beds and yard. Prior to coming to Bonners Ferry she graduated from High Line High School in Burien, Wash.

During World War II, Carmel worked as a switch board operator at Fort Lawton, which is in the Seattle area.

Carmel was an expert equestrian and in her younger years was crowned queen of the Renton Rodeo.

Because of her life-long love of horses she went to work at Longacres Racetrack in Seattle, where she worked as a switch board operator.

She is survived by one son, Robert Ostman of Seattle.
