Gov. Otter attends Legion dedication
Patriotism filled Club 55 during the rededication on Memorial Day as veterans and the community gathered to celebrate a place for veterans to socialize, connect and share.
“I congratulate you,” said Gov. Butch Otter. “To make sure after our folks finish their duty they have a place to socialize.”
One of the most important aspects of Club 55 is new veterans coming in looking for services and we want to help them find those services explained Commander Terry Spence.
After nearly 100 days of work on the facility by volunteers, Club 55 was ready to open as a smoke-free lounge for Superbowl Sunday.
“A place for veterans and the community,” said Spence. “It isn’t just for veterans. It is for everyone.”
Sock hops, weddings and parties were held at the American Legion in the past when the building was the most modern of its kind.
