Conservation program funding deadline Dec. 20

The Idaho Natural Resources Conservation Service set a Dec. 20 application deadline for the Environmental Quality Incentives program and Wildlife Habitat Incentive program. To be considered for 2014 conservation program funding, agricultural operators may submit applications before Dec. 20.

“We accept applications for these programs on a continuous basis however, only the applications received by Dec. 20will be considered for funding this fiscal year,” said Ron Brooks, Idaho NRCS EQIP manager. “We will evaluate the applications received by this date and award contracts based on available funds.”

Applications for organic operations, on-farm energy savings, seasonal high tunnel systems, soil health, and wildlife habitat are also due on Dec. 20. Applications received after the deadline will be reviewed in the 2015 funding cycle.

The Environmental Quality Incentives Program helps agricultural producers complete resource conservation projects and make conservation-related management changes on their farms or ranches. The Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program provides assistance to develop and improve fish and wildlife habitat on agricultural land, nonindustrial private forest land, and Tribal land. Conservation program participation is voluntary and helps private landowners and operators defray the costs of installing conservation practices.
