Family files tort vs. BCSD

| September 20, 2013 9:00 AM

BONNERS FERRY — The family of a Bonners Ferry High School student alleges the student was improperly suspended for allegedly making bomb threats.

Bobby, Heidi and Chase Invernon filed a tort claim on Sept. 6 against the Boundary County School District for the illegal and wrongful expulsion of Chase Invernon on April 11,which they allege resulted in the student, then a junior, being subject to violence and threats.

Invernon’s tort claim seeks $250,000 in compensation for lost wages, lost income, loss of enjoyment of life, mental suffering, emotional pain, and loss of reputation in the community.

The Boundary County School District declined to comment on the tort claim but

did state the claim has been turned over to the district’s insurance company.

The tort claim states that evidence against Chase Invernon was nonexistent, not credible and there was no admission by Invernon doing any of the bomb threats, or witnesses who saw him doing the bomb threats.

Invernon was questioned by law enforcement following his suspension in March of 2013, but no charges were filed and law enforcement determined that he did not do the bomb threats according to the claim.

The parents also state the school board did not send notice to Invernon’s attorney of the rescheduled expulsion hearing, which occurred on April 11, 2013.

The claim states no mention of Invernon’s expulsion was related to the bomb threats but states the high school principal and superintendent asserted that the suspension and expulsion would be for the bomb threats.

The claim states that “lacking the evidence the school simply expelled him without following the proper guidelines within the school district and Idaho Code”.

The following people are listed as involved in the incident: Bobby Invernon, Heidi Invernon, Chase Invernon, Richard Conley, Gil Hagen, Kirk Hoff, Tim Gering, Teresa Mulvaney, Ed DePriest, Mike Weland, Lisa Dirks, Steven Morton, Beverly Krichbaum, David Brinkman, Melanie Staples, Jerry Jimenez, and Conrad Garner.
