Annie Mae Vernon, 93

Annie Mae Vernon, 93, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 11, 2014, at Boundary Community Hospital in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

A memorial service is to be held on Saturday, April 19 at 1 p.m. at Mountain Springs Church in Bonners Ferry Idaho. Annie was born in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Sept., 8, 1920, to Walter and Pearl Morrell. She attended the Algoma School in Sagle, Idaho, where she was raised on a stump ranch during the Great Depression.

She married Melvin Vernon, the love of her life on March 6, 1937. Due to her husband’s job as a lineman the family traveled a lot until 1941 when Mel was injured in a railroad accident. After years of recovery they bought a dairy farm in Mabton, Wash., with Mel’s parents.

In 1952 Mel and Annie decided to move to the Kootenai Valley where they raised peppermint in Drainage District 3. Annie took a job cooking at the Boundary Community Hospital where she worked for 10 years.

In 1957 they purchased a house and two acres on Kaniksu Street on which they built the Kaniksu Trailer Park. In 1977 Annie started her own upholstery business with her daughter Lois called Tic Tac Upholstry. She was a skilled seamstress. After Mel passed away in 1983 Annie continued to do upholstery and ran the trailer park until she retired in 1990 at 70.

Annie was a kind and generous woman who touched the lives of many. She was a dedicatedChristian. Her faith in God was inspirational.

She was a loving and committed wife, mother and grandmother. Her hobbies included sewing, huckleberry picking, boondocking and hunting. She loved North Idaho and was thankful every day for the beauty that surrounded her. She was the glue that held her family together and will be missed by all.

Annie is survived by her four children, Lois Florea, Carolyn Warner, Russ Vernon, Curtis Vernon, and 10 grandchildren; Guy A. Patchen, Mark Berger, Perry Berger, Carrie Beuster, Linda Vernon, Owen Vernon, Brent VanAllen, Leslie Pease, Jared Vernon, Bethany Vernon, 28 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Mel, grandson Chris Berger and granddaughter LeaAnn Patchen.
