BONNERS FERRY — After a string of drug busts at Bonners Ferry schools, parents and administrators are looking to toughen up school policies concerning drugs, alcohol and tobacco.

Concern arose after individuals facing felony drug charges were allowed back in to school, and to practice with sports teams.

“We do everything we can to teach them right and wrong and to help them make the right choices,” said Victor Rae at the April 7 school board meeting. “Without action, we teach kids (using drugs) is tolerated.”

Currently, the BFHS student handbook calls for students that violate the Substance Abuse Policy for the first time to be suspended for two days.
