Work begins on Memorial playgrounds
BONNERS FERRY — It was a blustery Sunday morning in March for the five volunteers who showed up to start working on the first phase of the Boundary County Fairgrounds Memorial playground.
Putting in sidewalks to make the playground accessible to everyone were Rob Tompkins, Gene Andrews, Scott Hittle, Tim English and Rod LePoidevin.
Volunteers stamped bear, elk, turkey and other animal footprints into the fresh concrete April 10.
One lucky youngster got to leave footprints as well. A big thank you to Boundary Tractor for use of the equipment and Woods Crushing and Hauling for donating the concrete.
The old playground structures went up for auction April 8 and sold to Jamie Barton and family for $350. The rocket shaped climbing structure was reunited with a slide from a previous version of the park owned by the Maas family. The money was rolled back into the project.
