Property taxes due Dec. 22

| December 12, 2014 8:00 AM

BONNERS FERRY — Boundary County Treasurer Jenny Fessler would like to remind all Boundary County taxpayers that the deadline for paying the first half of this year’s taxes without penalty is Monday, Dec. 22 because the regular due date, Dec. 20, falls on the weekend.

Tax notices were sent in November and can be paid in two installments; the first half by Dec. 22 and the remainder by June 22, 2015, as the original date of June 20 falls on the weekend.

Any portion of the assessed tax may be paid at any time, but if there is a remaining balance on the first half after Dec. 22, a two-percent late charge is immediately applied. After Jan. 1, interest of one percent per month is added.

Tax payments can be mailed to the Treasurer’s Office at PO Box 218, or at the Treasurer’s office in the Boundary County Courthouse, 6452 Kootenai Street, in downtown Bonners Ferry. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Payments that are mailed to the Treasurer’s Office must be postmarked by Dec. 22, 2014 to avoid penalty.

MasterCard, Discover and Visa cards are now accepted at the Treasurer’s office. If the office is closed, you may pay by telephone with a credit card through Official Payments Corporation.

Their phone number is 1-877-203-6083. You will be asked to enter your bill number, a daytime phone number, year of tax bill you are paying, amount you are paying, and your credit card information. We also have added PayStation to our website which has been convenient for many of our taxpayers. There is a convenience fee for these services.
