Second fatal house fire this year

| February 14, 2014 8:00 AM

BONNERS FERRY — Bonners Ferry police and fire departments were dispatched Friday, Feb. 7 to a residential house fire on Westview drive in the north side of Bonners Ferry.

Neighbors said flames were shooting from windows on the main floor and basement of the house when firefighters arrived.

Flames were extinguished and emergency responders were able to enter the building within two hours of arriving but not soon enough to save the single victim, Veronica Abraham, 25, of Bonners Ferry.

Neighbors and EMS workers feared the worst as they were originally unable to locate children who lived in the residence but were able to determine they were elsewhere during the fire.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation but no foul play is suspected.

A wake for the deceased will be 4 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Kootenai Tribal Hall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Feb. 14 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bonners Ferry.
