Geneva (Arlene) Kalb, 80

Longtime Sandpoint resident Geneva (Arlene) Kalb, 80, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, in Bonners Ferry Idaho, at Ace Elder Care.

A memorial service will be held at the Dover Community Church at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014. A reception and time of sharing will be held after at the Dover Community Hall immediately following her service. A private burial will be held.

Arlene was born June 4, 1933, to Mary and Darrell Perry. She grew up in Dover, Idaho, and attended school in Dover and Sandpoint. She graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1952.

Arlene met Robert G. Kalb while working at Ben Franklin and they were married on June 10, 1956. They later purchased Benoit’s Bootery aka The Bootery and operated it together until 1979 and then co-operated it with their oldest son Steven until 1989.

After retirement, Arlene and Bob went south for the winter to Arizona and spent time with many of the Sandpoint “Snowbirds” there. They later traveled with the Good Sam Club / Rainbow Chasers camping and enjoying their “golden years.”

Arlene was a loving wife and mother. Family was very important to her. She created a beautiful home and loved her flower gardens. She enjoyed spending time with her children and all of her grandchildren.

Arlene always had a beautiful smile that will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her one sister Delores (Wayne) Herman; her sons and their families, Steven (Denise) Kalb, Douglas (Pauline) Kalb and Jeffrey Kalb; grandchildren: Robbie (Sally) Kalb, Stephanie (Mike) Jellesed, Paul Kalb, Bradley (Kristine) Kalb, Angela Kalb, Melisa (Bill) Kinzel, Rosie Kalb, and Dustin Kalb; great-grandchildren: Justin, Kirsti, Sean, Aiden and Sidney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G., in 2011; her parents, brothers Hugh, Dave and Paul; and sisters, Nancy and Waneta.
