Grizzlies outscore Badgers despite lead at half

| January 3, 2014 8:00 AM

The Badger varsity team lost a close game against Newport on Saturday, Dec. 14.

“We played a real solid first half--the kids were flying around and attacking the rim and really opened up the floor,” said Coach Brian Woods. “It was a great half of basketball.”

Newport played very well in the second half to quickly erase a 12 point half-time deficit and tied the game at the end of the third quarter.

“We got a little cautious and Newport hit their three’s in the second half,” said coach Woods. “We just need to stay aggressive but I was proud of the boys.”

Kyler Rice led the boys with 19 points, Cameron Woods chipped in 14 points and three assists, and Matt Sabin added nine rebounds.

“Matt played very well and continues to develop as a player,” said Woods.
