Leroy Nagel, 69

| January 3, 2014 8:00 AM

LeRoy Nagel, 69, passed away on Dec. 25, 2013, in Penrose, Colo.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Vineyard Church, 245 South Raynolds Ave, Canon City, Col.

He was born May 3, 1944 in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to Udo and Alice (McClamant) Nagel.

After graduating from high school, LeRoy joined the United States Army where he spent 26 years touring the world and serving his country.

It was during this time that he married Joyce Robush and together they had five children.

He loved people and never knew a stranger. There was always room at the dinner table as well as the house for his children’s friends or folks that just needed a place to stay for a while.

Preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, he later found a kindred spirit in Cindy Woodard, whom he married and added her children as his own.

LeRoy was patient and kind and enjoyed volunteering. He was a volunteer firefighter for the town of Williamsburg from 1996 to 2010, Williamsburg city council, and recently at the McCandless Veterans home where he took many residents fishing.

He loved to paint, fish, tell tall tales to his grandchildren; convincing them that he “was so old, that I was born before the dinosaurs and watched them hatch”, and to play practical jokes whenever the occasion arose. To know LeRoy was to love him and more importantly; to be loved by him.

He is survived by his wife: Cindy Woodard, children: Susan (James) Bryant, William (Petra) Nagel, Lisa (Chris) Porter, Jennifer (Shane) Espinoza, Bianca (Jamie) Krakofsky, Allana Guy, Robyn Pringle, Chad Pringle, Kaylee Pringle, and Kevin Woodard; grandchildren: Tyler, Caleb, Tyra, Scott, Joshua, Sissy, Eric (Jessica), Michael (Breanna), Autumn (Brian), Derek (Shelby), Christopher (Kristin), Alexander (Tiffany), Andrew, Dillon, Audra, James, Chloe, Kiauna, Victoria, Kayla, Zachariah, Jacob, Trenton and Chandler; great-grandchildren: Gracie, Karter, Madysen, Maci and Emily; sister: Frieda (Larry) March, brother: Melvin (Kathy) Nagel and aunt, Beulah (McClamant) Anderson; brother-in-law Scott (Barb) Beseau; and many other adopted children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sally, grand-daughter Kasey, and uncle Lowell Anderson.
