Nadine Nystrom, 72

| January 7, 2014 6:26 AM

Beloved sister and dear friend, Nadine Nystrom, 72, went to be with her Lord Jesus after a short battle with cancer.

Services celebrating Nadine's life will be held at the First Baptist Church, 6711 El Paso St., Bonners Ferry, on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. and at the Redmond Assembly of God Church, 16601 NE 95th St., Redmond, Wash., on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m.

Nadine was born on Feb. 14, 1941, in Havre, Mont. Her family moved when she was 6 months old to small towns in Washington and Idaho where her dad worked in construction. They lived in the Tri-Cities from 1947-1956 and then the family moved to Eastport.

She graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1958 and worked at Don’s Cafe during the summers and after school. In 1959 she married Don Nystrom. They lived in Spokane and Moscow and in 1966 they returned to Naples where they bought a farm and pastured cattle and grew grain.

In 1997 they bought land on the 20-Mile Road and raised alfalfa and built a new home. In 2006 the marriage ended and Nadine moved to the Seattle area to be near her sisters.

After living in assisted living for three years, she bought her own home in Redmond’s Friendly Village community and was active in the Children's Hospital Guild and the Wounded Warriors quilting project; she made warm hats for the Union Gospel Mission; she made beautiful wooden pens (without power tools); and she loved photography and making calendars and notecards for her family and friends.

She enjoyed traveling in her RV with her sister Jan and made a trip to Bonners Ferry this past summer for her 55th high school reunion. During the last months of Nadine’s life, she was lovingly cared for in her home by Evergreen Hospice, by her best friend of 57 years, Sherry Cox (Wayne), and her sister Jan.

She is survived by her sisters, Rita Rae Ellis of Kirkland, Linda Reynolds-Miller of San Francisco, and Jan Alberti (Scott) of Shoreline; her dad's widow, Sally Reynolds of Bonners Ferry; her niece, Verlynn Ellis of Mukilteo; and nephew, Tom Ellis and his family of Kirkland; aunts Genevieve Paulson of Chinook, Mont., and Emma Gene Gross of Sun City, Ariz, and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her dad, Rex Reynolds, and mom Lucille Riehl. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her honor to Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission or Evergreen Hospice.
