Douglas Keith DeBoer

| January 10, 2014 8:00 AM

On Sunday Dec. 22, 2013, Douglas Keith DeBoer returned home to his heavenly Father.

Funeral services were held on Dec. 30, 2013, at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was then laid to rest close to his parents, in the Forest Cemetery, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. On Saturday, Jan 4, 2014 at 3 p.m. at the Northwood's Tavern, in Naples, family and friends gathered together for a potluck in his honor.

He was born Oct. 23, 1937, in Bonners Ferry Idaho, to Ellen and Evert DeBoer. He was the eighth of 10 children. He graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1956.

He married Judy O'Connell on Sept. 7, 1957. They were married for 19 years and had four children together. He later met Sharon Burney of Bonners Ferry and remained her partner for 33 years until his death.  There wasalways a close, loving bond between the blended families and because of that his children and grandchildren have been greatly blessed.

He had an immense love for nature, and he felt most at home in the mountains. He took the time to see the details in nature and he truly enjoyed and appreciated the beauty and wonder of the earth.

He was a logger for most of his adult life and later raised cattle. He had an extensive knowledge and love of Boundary County.

He regarded himself as a very simple man. But to those who knew and loved him, he was so much more. He told great stories, and he had a great wit, and a wonderful laugh. He was highly respected, and greatly loved, by his family and friends.

His greatest joy and achievement was his family. During his long illness, it was humbling to hear his deep expressions of gratitude, for even the smallest gesture of service done unto him. His expressions of love for his family, flowed often, and freely from him. Truly his greatest pride and joy was found in his family.

He leaves a loving legacy to his children and grandchildren, and he will be "greatly" missed.

He is survived by his partner ,Sharon Burney; four children, Gregory DeBoer, Robert (Debbie) DeBoer, Leisa (Sean) McKane, and Duane DeBoer, and two stepsons, Tom Burney, and Randy (Kristi) Burney, plus several loving grandchildren.

He is also survived by sisters, Rojean (Del) Flory, Gloria Chervenell, Barbara (Gene) Dehlbom, Virginia Worley, and Bernice (Richard) Crookes; sister-in-law, Yolanda DeBoer; and several loving nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his parents; three brothers, Marvin, Calvin, and Byron; and one sister, Rosella (Cecil) Jantz.

His family would like to offer their profound thanks to Boundary General Hospice, especially Nancy, Beth, Jan, and Jenna, for their wonderful, loving care, during his extended illness. They will never forget your service or compassion.  They would also like to express our heartfelt, deep gratitude to Bobby, and all those who helped build the beautifully made casket for their beloved father and thir thanks to Judith Regher for the beautiful floral spray!
