Man found dead at Boundary County Jail
David Lee Erickson, 43, of Boundary County was pronounced dead after an apparent suicide while confined in the Boundary County Jail July 30.
According to Boundary County Public Information Officer Michael Meier, Erickson was arrested in Bonners Ferry on an outstanding warrant from Bonner County earlier in the day. An additional charge of resisting arrest was also added to his charges.
Chief Deputy Rich Stephens at the Boundary County Sheriff's Office confirmed that a Taser was used in the arrest of Erickson, but did not contribute to his death, Stephens said. According to Meier, Erickson had no injuries and was in good health when he was confined to the Boundary County Jail.
The evening of July 30, Erickson, who was housed alone, was discovered hanging in an apparent suicide attempt. There is no suspected foul play, nor other subjects involved, said Meier. All subjects in confinement are checked every 30 minutes within the Boundary County Jail for their own safety. Upon discovery of Erickson's condition, CPR was immediately undertaken, Meier said.
At 8:52 p.m. an ambulance was called to transport Erickson to the Boundary County Hospital where attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and Erickson was pronounced deceased, Meier said.
Reports on toxicology and a full autopsy are proceeding. According to Meier, all deaths while confined are investigated. Sheriff Greg Sprungl has requested the Idaho State Police do the investigation, which is ongoing.
