Football team begins summer conditioning work
By ED DEPRIEST
The Badger football team started our summer strength and conditioning workouts last Monday. There were many positives and some areas of concern. The positives are that our incoming freshmen and sophomores had good numbers this week. The concerns are that only one senior participated and two juniors came the first day only.
The actual numbers for the first week were:
Seniors: 1 player – 2 days
Juniors: 2 players – 1 day each
Sophomores: 7 players – total of 22 days
Freshmen: 12 players – 35 total days
Our daily average was 15.5 players per day.
I know that many players and families take vacations, work, and have various activities and I have told the boys that I want them to enjoy their summers. I have asked them to attend as much as possible. As I have said many times, we must, as a team, commit to working hard this summer so that we can compete with those teams who do hit the weight room hard over the summer.
I would like to ask the parents to motivate your sons to attend; the employers, whenever possible, to schedule the boys to allow them to make the 5:00 start, and the community to support not only the football players, but all young people this summer in their quest to make themselves and their teams better.
The Badgers can be very good and successful if, as a team, we all work hard this summer.
How bad do you want it?
