Rae wins 2014-'15 DYW program
BONNERS FERRY — Mariah Noelle Rae is the Bonners Ferry 2014-2015 Distinguished Young Woman.
The BFHS junior was not a “winner among representatives,” said emcee Kris Crocker, Chief Meteorologist for KXLY 4, “but a representative among winners.”
Rae wore a dazzling red and black outfit and showed off her athleticism as she danced a contemporary hoop dance to the song, “Light ‘em up.”
She received a $2,300 DYW scholarship, a gift basket from Twin Rivers Canyon Resort, a photo shoot with Mica Jae’s photography, half a dozen gift certificates and $150 state travel allowance to travel to the Idaho state finals Nov. 6-8.
Shaylee Ellson garnered the first runner-up position with a lyrical/ballet dance to “What a Wonderful World,” and received a $1,800 DYW scholarship, gift baskets and certificates for her efforts.
Ellson also won the talent and fitness awards.
Natalie Shelton was the second runner-up for a $1,500 DYW scholarship and gift baskets/certificates after singing “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” and received the prize for the interview, won the self-expression category and received one of the scholastic awards.
Kendra Urbaniak sang “Let it Go,” for her talent, and was the recipient of the other scholastic award, a $750 DYW scholarship.
Sara Schrock and Joslyn Invernon tied for the Be Your Best Self prize for their work with the young misses.
