BCMS track teams first in districts
The eighth grade boys' and girls' track teams completed their season undefeated as they outscored 11 other teams at their middle school track districts at Timberlake High School May 6.
The seventh and eighth graders were combined during the regular season and the team’s large number of participants (59 athletes) helped them win their previous four meets.
Teams were separated by grade for the final meet. The seventh grade girls placed second while the seventh grade boys placed third. The top eight finishers in each event scored for their team.
For the eighth grade boys, Malichi Rivkin remained unbeaten in the distance events for the season, winning the 800 meter run in a time of 2:23.5 and the 1600 meter run in a season best of 5:11.5.
Newcomer Michael Scharf led the Badgers in individual scoring with 26 points. Scharf went undefeated in the 200 winning with a time of 26.3 seconds. Scharf also placed second in the 100 meter dash (12.84) and long jump (17’3.25’’). Nick Bertling contributed points by placing second in the 110 meter hurdles (16.57) and cleared 5’0’’ to place second in the high jump. Bertling also teamed up with Rivkin, Neil Martin and Anthony Minor to place second the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 2:09.1. In the 4x100 Minor, Joseph Swanson, Reece Bell and Bradley Corson ran to a fourth place finish in a time of 55.34.
The Badger throwers continued to show their strength with three placers in the top eight. Brady Bateman led the throwers in the disc by placing second with a toss of 99’00’’. Pacen Pluid was fourth (94’04’’) and Ronny Craig seventh (88’10’’). Pluid led the way in the shot put with a put of 34’01’’ to place third, followed by Craig in seventh (29’00’’) and Bateman in eighth (28’06.5’’).
