Library bond fails, county incumbents win

BONNERS FERRY — With 1,712 votes against and 553 in favor in unofficial final results, the Boundary County Library District general obligation bond failed in the May 20 primary.

A permanent library tax override levy also failed with 1,676 against and 561 in favor.

Boundary County turned out 2,273 voters for the primaries — 41.1 percent out of 5,525 voters registered prior to May 20.

County commissioner races were close, but both incumbents passed through primaries for the Republican nomination in the November race.

LeAlan Pinkerton took the District 1 race, with 943 votes to Jeannie Robinson’s 886. Walt Kirby had 940 votes in the District 2 race to Philip Sweet’s 861.

Susan “Sue” Larson took the Republican nomination for treasurer with 1,061 votes. Scot Lindsay had 437 and Becky James had 322 votes.

In State District 1 races, Shawn Keough took the Republican nomination for

state senator with 53.8 percent of the vote to Danielle Ahrens’ 46.2 percent.
