Police arrest bomb threat suspect

On Thursday, May 15 the Bonners Ferry Police Department announced the arrest of a 12 year old Bonners Ferry Middle School student in connection with a handwritten bomb threat that cleared the campus late the previous afternoon.

On Wednesday, May 14 at about 3:45 p.m., officers from the Bonners Ferry Police Department, deputies from the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office and the Bonners Ferry Fire Department responded to a possible bomb threat at the Boundary County Middle School after school officials were notified of the word “bomb” scrawled on a bathroom wall next to a urinal in the boys’ restroom.

Students were immediately evacuated from the school as officials searched lockers, classrooms and storage rooms for a possible destructive device. No such device was found.

On Thursday, investigators returned to the school and conducted an extensive investigation into several students who were considered persons of interest. Based on physical evidence recovered at the school, officers identified and arrested the suspect.

After basic processing by officers, the student was released to the custody of his parents. The case will be submitted to the prosecuting attorney for possible charges of making a false bomb threat, which is a felony.
