Spoil yourself at Picturesque

BONNERS FERRY — Nissa Henslee purchased the 104-year-old, two-story brick building at 7196 Main St. with a ‘Picturesque’ vision in mind.

“I want to help others feel better about themselves while being spoiled in the process,” she says. “After all, don’t we all deserve to be spoiled once in a while?”

Henslee, a marketing professional in the technology industry, is taking her obsessions with the color pink, chandeliers and being pampered to the public with the grand opening of Picturesque in the former McCoy’s Home Interiors building in downtown Bonners Ferry.

Picturesque will be a celebration of all things feminine, mainly centered in the upstairs portion of the building at 7196 Main St.

While the wide-open downstairs section is expected to be a bazaar of sorts where small vendors can sell their wares, the heart of Picturesque will be focused in the long-unused upstairs of the building.

A number of rooms are currently under remodel, refinishing vintage doors and trim and updating paint, hardwood floors and fixtures.

Henslee loves chandeliers, and many rooms are getting new and unique fixtures that she has found all over. Once customers check in at the reception area, they will be able to visit rooms set up for a myriad of purposes.

One room will be a small workout area where women can go to without competing for space with sweaty, grunting men.

“It’s a no drama zone,” says Jaycee Atkins, Henslee’s marketing manager and number two.

Another room will be set up as a massage room, with the unique feature of looking out on a closed atrium space not accessible from the street. Two rooms will be set up for photography sessions, with sets and backdrops for family portraits, baby pictures and the like. A yoga room features heated ceiling panels.

“That’s a personal passion of mine,” says Henslee, “I got addicted to heated yoga in Dallas. It made me feel really good about myself.”

Helping women feel good is the main focus of the entire operation, and the pair hopes to be able to help with women’s issues, donate to women’s charities and find other ways to help women feel good about themselves.

Customers will be treated to a complementary glass of champagne with some packages.

“We just want people to feel beautiful,” Atkins says. “Everyone deserves to feel beautiful.”

The front of the building facing Main Street will be reserved for a hair and nail salon. Henslee has purchased a pair of Anthea pedicure chairs so customers can have side-by-side service done.

Column-top pedestals sit by chairs for ladies to set their purses, something often overlooked by a number of salons, Atkins says.

The salon will feature the full line of Kevin Murphy hair care products. Another room will be reserved for an esthetician that will offer eyelash extensions, facials and waxing.

Henslee feels her business is tackling an under served niche in Bonners Ferry. She intends to market heavily to Creston and other areas across the Canadian border in order to bring outside traffic to town.

“I’m not looking to steal business,” she says. “It would break my heart to see someone close their doors. I’m looking to bring more growth to this town, and hopefully bring in customers that will make multiple stops here.”

A final perk for customers will be wi-fi access for them to use. Henslee is looking at using tablets instead of magazines in her waiting room.

“We’re doing what we can to make this a green business,” she says.

The Picturesque grand opening will be Friday, Nov. 21. For more information, see their website at www.picturesque-bf.com or call 267-4421.
