Shopping local pays off big on Friday and Saturday

BONNERS FERRY — No need to brave the icy roads to Sandpoint, or fight the traffic in Coeur d’Alene and Spokane this weekend.

With some merchants offering Black Friday deals starting Thanksgiving evening, and Amazon just a click away, Bonners Ferry businesses have come up with a way to reward locals for staying home, shopping locally and meeting their neighbors as they explore what Bonners Ferry businesses have to offer.

Friday, Nov. 28 (Black Friday) and Saturday, Nov. 29, now known as Small Business Saturday, participating local vendors will be offering special deals for shoppers holding coupons and the shop locally punch card.

Punch cards and coupons will be available at the participating businesses, at the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot fun run, starting 9 a.m. at the Boundary County Fairgrounds, and at the Bonners Ferry Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 28 starting at 4 p.m. in the Georgia Mae Plaza.

Thirty businesses and the Bonners Ferry Chamber of Commerce have signed on to support the shop locally movement and help promote the tree lighting ceremony, where Santa will arrive care of the fire department’s big, red, diesel-powered sleigh. After the shopping kick-off weekend, customers will be able to turn in their punch cards for a prize drawing.
