Badger football to play Kellogg Friday

BONNERS FERRY — After a bye week, the Badger varsity football team will head to Kellogg Friday to take on the Wildcats in their first Intermountain League matchup of the season.

With a single win against Lake City’s JV, the Badgers look to improve their season against the winless Wildcats.

“We played St. Maries tough,” says coach Don Alt. “Interceptions by Chase Erickson and Evan Wasmer in the first half were big highlights.”

The Badgers were down 14 to 0 at half in the Sept. 26 game and turned over the ball at the 10 yard line midway through the third quarter. St. Maries scored on fourth down at the one yard line.

“Our defense was tough but gave up three large scoring plays,” Coach Alt says. After forcing a turnover Jason Shutes hit Caleb Harrington with a 25 yard strike, then Shutes returned a interception 29 yards for a touchdown.

Shutes threw to Harrington for the two-point conversion, but the effort was too little, too late, and the Badgers lost the game 29-14.

The Badgers play Kellogg tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. in Kellogg.
