The Bonners Ferry Boys’ soccer team opened the District I-II playoffs Tuesday night with a 4-0 shutout over the Priest River Spartans in Priest River.

The Badgers took a 2-0 lead into halftime on first half goals by senior midfielder Steffen Robles, who converted a penalty kick in the 31st minute, and senior defender Trevor Pew, who took a nice give-and-go pass from Robles in the 33rd minute and knocked it past Spartan goalkeeper Adam Irvine.

Bonners Ferry increased their lead in the second half when junior Christian Kromm scored in the 50th minute off an assist from senior midfielder Collin Stone.

Robles closed the games’ scoring in the 68th minute, scoring from the right side on a well-placed shot off the far post. Junior goalkeeper Caleb Blackmore recorded three saves to preserve the shutout.

All of the Badgers played well, while the play of sophomore defender Elijah Price, Robles and Pew along the back line and center midfield were key differences in the outcome.

With the win the Badgers advance to the District I-II championship game today at 3 p.m., facing Timberlake at the Community United Methodist Church field in Coeur d’Alene, which is located directly across from Lake City High School off Ramsey Avenue. The Tigers dispatched of St. Maries in the other semifinal with a convincing 6-1 win.
