Julia Starling (Star) Brown, 55, succumbed to a long illness and passed away at her residence in Spokane, Wash., on Oct. 12, 2014.

Star was born in Maywood, Calif., on Jan. 27, 1958, to Merle and Georgia Brown. She began elementary school in Walla Walla, Wash., and at the age of eight moved with her family to Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where she graduated high school.

Star’s formative years were spent on the family’s ranch where she helped raise registered Hereford cattle and quarter horses. Her involvement in 4-H and FFA lead to her serving as Bonners Ferry Fair Royalty in 1976.

After graduating high School, Star moved to Spokane where she met and married Duane Olson from whom she later divorced.

Later she moved to Farmington, N.M., with her longtime companion David Weir. Upon David’s death in 2009 Star returned to Spokane to be closer to her family. She always enjoyed spending time with her nieces Jessica Brown, Melinda Greenway, Samantha Wells, and nephews Heath and Spence Wells.

Star was preceded in death by her father Merle Delray Brown and is survived by her Mother, Georgia Brown, brother, Bill Brown, sisters, Merlene (Kevin) Greenway and Charlene (Paul) Wells.

In lieu of flowers or other remembrances the family asks donations be made in Star’s name to a local animal shelter.
