Volleyball team wins district title
BONNERS FERRY — First-year head volleyball coach Kendra Maas earned the IML Volleyball coach of the year award just before her Lady badgers swept the district tourney, beating Timberlake in three sets, 25-16, 25-11 and 25-23 Oct. 22.
The Lady Badgers finished first in the Intermountain League with an 8-0 record. Jasmine Hill, Amanda Wilson, and Savannah Woods earned all-league honors for their undefeated season, and Savannah Woods was awarded MVP of the league.
“These seniors have made significant contributions in their continued dedication, positive attitude and determination in their play of the game. Way to go! Let’s keep after it!” said Coach Maas.
The Badgers came out on fire to a packed house Oct. 22, pulling out to early leads in the first two sets without looking back. The Tigers fought back in the third set, tying the game and even leading for a few points before dominant play by Jasmine Hill and the Lady Badgers at the net closed the door on Timberlake. Hill had 10 kills in the game. Savannah Woods had 19 assists, and Ciera Woods had 3 blocks. Malorie Stippich had 5 aces in the game, and 18 digs.
“Every member of this team has helped contribute to its successes and where the team is today — state-bound! This team focuses on helping each other out mentally and physically on the court. I am so proud of this team and what they have set their minds to, in hard-work, courage and love of the game,” said Coach Maas.
The Lady Badgers head to the State Volleyball Tournament in Twin Falls on Thursday, Oct. 30. They face Sugar-Salem on Friday, Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. State play continues Saturday, Nov. 1.
