Badger golf season starts off with win on home course
BONNERS FERRY —The Bonners Ferry Badgers golf team got off to a good start in defeating Clark Fork and Mullan in a tri-match on March 24 at Mirror Lake Golf Course. The Badgers shot a team total of 190 to come in first with Clark Fork coming in second at 268 and Mullan third with a 290.
Leading the way for the Badgers with Low Medalist honors was Mitchell Kramer shooting a 44. Following Kramer in scoring was Zach McWilliams with a 47, Christopher English 51, Tucker Dirks at 53 and rounding out the scoring was Brad Byers with a 68.
Two days later saw the Badgers play a dual match against Kellogg at home. The team did not play as well and lost as Kellogg shot a 181 to the Badgers 212. Mitchell Kramer again led the Badgers with a score of 49. Next lowest score for Bonners Ferry was Zach McWilliams with a 51 followed by Christopher English 53, Tucker Dirks 59, and Owen Beazer with a 66. Low medalist was Jeff Finlay of Kellogg with a fine 41.
Ralph Lotspeich, coach of the Badgers, is really looking forward to the season.
“I think we have a good shot at qualifying for State this year,” Lotspeich said. “It all depends on how committed the kids are to improving their golf games.
“ Improvements come with practice and hopefully they will practice a lot on their own. You definitely get out of it with what you put in it.”
