Bonners Ferry Warriors' lacrosse season opens

| April 10, 2015 7:53 AM

The Bonners Ferry Warriors Lacrosse Club opened its 2015 campaign at home against the Sandpoint Lacrosse Club Thursday, April 9 at the John and Shirley Lindberg Memorial Field (the soccer field) at Bonners Ferry High School.

New Head Coach Brandon Glaza, along with his new assistant coaching staff, Brent Dehlbom, Alethia Ussher, and Morris McAllister have been working with the group of twenty-three boys and one girl in preparation for Thursday’s night game which starts at 5:15 p.m.

Coach Glaza has eight returning players from last year’s team. They are Ashton Blumenauer, Gabe Egge, Seth and Wade Rice, Devan Skehan, Donavan Varelman, Brandon Westbrook, and Isaac Wilson. He also has Christian Dehlbom, who has three years experience formerly playing for the Sandpoint Lacrosse Club.

First year players are Joel Butler, Ezra, Gabe, and Riley Delaney, John Eby, Trent Freeze, Seth Fuller, Wyatt Hart, Derek Lopez-Merrifield, Jayden Miller, Jonathan Parker, Sky and Tully Reinhardt, Clay Schmidt and Camille Ussher.

The coaches have been working with these players two days a week since March 7 and they are impressed with the stick skills the players have developed.

There is no charge for admission, so Coach Glaza encourages the community to come out to the game to support the program Thursday night.

The Bonners Ferry Lacrosse Program is a pay to play sport, and the Club would like to recognize the following businesses for their recent donations: Les Schwab Tires, Accurate Collision Service, Inc, Mountain West Bank and Dr. Mark Beazer.

The club’s major purchase this year is the new uniforms for the players which will cost an estimated $1,400. If you would like to make a donation to help the club purchase these uniforms, or to help fund the pay-to-play fees, please make out your check out to the Bonners Ferry Lacrosse Club, and mail it to PO Box 1904, Bonners Ferry, ID 83805.
